Obama: “Wild Scenario” = Count All the Votes

The Obama Campaign is now sending out a memo to automatic delegates, containing these gems:

With the Clinton path to the nomination getting even narrower, we expect new and wildly creative scenarios to emerge in the coming days. While those scenarios may be entertaining, they are not legitimate and will not be considered legitimate by this campaign or its millions of supporters, volunteers, and donors.

We believe it is exceedingly unlikely Senator Clinton will overtake our lead in the popular vote and in fact lost ground on that measure last night. However, the popular vote is a deeply flawed and illegitimate metric for deciding the nominee – since each campaign based their strategy on the acquisition of delegates. More importantly, the rules of the nomination are predicated on delegates, not popular vote.

Essentially, the popular vote is not much better as a metric than basing the nominee on which candidate raised more money, has more volunteers, contacted more voters, or is taller.

So, not only does the Obama campaign contend that the actual vote totals are an “illegitimate” way to gauge the “will of the people,” they are also poising themselves to declare victory on May 20, before they even have and actual majority of the delegates (so much for “the rules”), and before the Rules and Bylaws Committee even addresses Florida and Michigan on May 31st.

Not long after the polls close in the May 20 Kentucky and Oregon primaries, Barack Obama plans to declare victory in his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

~snip~

Obama will not reach the 2,025 magic number on May 20. Rather, on that date he is all but certain to hit a different threshold—1,627 pledged delegates, which would constitute a winning majority among the 3,253 total pledged delegates if Florida and Michigan are not included.

“On May 20 we’re going to declare victory,” said an Obama senior advisor who asked that his name be withheld to speak candidly, adding that after those contests they will be “the ones with the most pledged delegates and the most popular votes.”

This is flat out ridiculous. Not only will South Dakota, Montana and Puerto Rico not have voted yet, making their claim to the popular vote erroneous, but they won’t even have reached the 1,784 majority of pledged delegates including Michigan and Florida, much less the bunk 2,025 threshold, and certainly not 2,209.

This is clearly a desperate ploy by the Obama campaign to claim victory before Michigan and Florida are even discussed, and before all the votes have been cast.

If the Obama campaign goes through with this short-sighted, illegitimate, divisive, and destructive “plan,” Obama will solidify the discontent of Clinton’s supporters and will ensure that they stay home, or worse [for him], vote McCain in November. If the Republican base and establishment vote together for McCain as they did for Bush, that will combine with Clinton Democrats to provide a comfortable GOP victory.

  1. The arrogant self proclaimed uniter cannot even unite the democratic party- he has managed to divide it and it is not repairable , the divide is unbridgeable. He has used and played the race card from the beginning. I see nothing honorable in a man who choses to defend his political honor before he defends the honor of America. He only distanced himself from the rev AFTER the rev stated the obvious, that Obama was just another politican doing what politicans do.
Barak has written in his book that the world is in need because of a the WHITE man’s greed? Is that not racial. what abouth the antipathy that he says he feels for his mothers race?
The more people learn about him the greater the divide.
If he is given the nomination by the super delegates I have no choice but to vote for John McCain.
Well that’s the change that Obama must be talking about.

  2. yes, by all means… hillary needs to stay in the race. even if bo gets the nomination… she should stay. she should fly to all of his campaign speeches and heckle him. maybe even urge her voters to vote for mccain.

yes, if she can’t be the nominee… no one should.

  3. BO was hand picked, groomed, and processed to get where he is today. Sometimes I can’t believe people are taken in…but then again I remember that our current president somehow squeaked by. At the time, I couldn’t believe ANYONE would vote for someone who had been arrested more than themselves. I have spent too many years being disappointed in our choices and then ultimately the choice my fellow americans make. This will be the first time I will CHOOSE to sit out. Right now, I’m not sure if I can ever go there again. I am glad we have the right to vote; but I am 52 years old and so very tired of the results.

    HELL NO, I WON’T BO!

  4. Talk about arrogant!

  5. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? FREAKIN OBAMA.

WHY? LET’S SEE, BECAUSE HILLARY PEOPLE WON’T VOTE FOR OBAMA THE HACK, WHITES WON’T, WORKING CLASS WON’T, ALL BIG SWING STATES WON’T (SORRY YOU DON’T WIN THE GENERAL ELECTION THROUGH 2 HR. ILLEGITIMATE CAUCUSES), MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA PEOPLE WON’T, AND INDEPENDENTS, MODERATE DEMS, AND REPUBLICANS WILL ALL GO FOR MCCAIN!

NOT TO MENTION THAT OBAMA AND ALL OF HIS DIRTY CHICAGO SCANDALS WITH REZKO, AYERS, THE DALEY MACHINE, AND REV. WRIGHT!

OBAMA IS SO SCREWED, AND HOPEFULLY HILLARY WILL GET THE NOMINATION BECAUSE SHE’LL KICK BUTT AND MAKE A GREAT PRESIDENT!

OTHERWISE, I (AND MANY MORE INDEPEDENT FRIENDS LIKE ME) WILL VOTE FOR MCCAIN, BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY IN HECK I WOULD EVER VOTE FOR THE LYING, PRIDEFUL, POLITICAL HACK THAT IS BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA, FORGET IT!
