Obamabots Waking Up to Fact That Obama is Your Everyday, Average, Corrupt, Status Quo Politician?

The talk of the town is why Obama, who was supposed to be transformative Lincolnesque change agent, is looking instead like a poor man’s version of Hillary Clinton, just without the wisdom, strength, or fangs.

The Washington Times reports today that Obama has flip-flopped again and broken another campaign promise — he has no plans to stick his neck out on gay issues and seek to overturn the unpopular ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ law:

President-elect Barack Obama will not move for months, and perhaps not until 2010, to ask Congress to end the military’s decades-old ban on open homosexuals in the ranks, two people who have advised the Obama transition team on this issue say.

What a shock, coming from the man who has been explicitly against gay rights and not so silently complicit in the gay marriage bans across the country.

The Progressive magazine is in a tizzy, wailing that instead of a “welcome departure from empire as usual” Obama is turning to Clintonistas and that “progressives are getting absolutely nothing from Obama“:

When is Obama going to appoint someone who reflects the progressive base that brought him to the White House?

He won the crucial Iowa caucuses on the strength of his anti-Iraq War stance, and many progressive peace and justice activists worked hard for him against John McCain.

So why in the world is he choosing Hillary Clinton to be Secretary of State when she was one of the loudest hawks on Iraq and threatened to obliterate 75 million Iranians?

And it’s not just Hillary.

Obama’s OMB pick, Peter Orzag, is a Clintonite disciple of Robert Rubin.

Obama’s AG pick, Eric Holder, is a Clintonite who represented Chiquita Bananas.

And Larry Summers’s name is still being bandied about for Treasury, even though Summers, while Clinton’s Treasury Secretary, forced the deregulation of our financial markets and imposed disaster capitalism on Russia.

Worse still, heading Obama’s transition team on intelligence matters are two former deputies to George Tenet, of all people.

Amy Goodman over at left-wing radio Democracy Now is shocked and surprised that Obama’s intelligence picks are disciples of Tenet — who was also a Clinton appointee:

John Brennan and Jami Miscik, both former intelligence officials under George Tenet, are leading Barack Obama’s review of intelligence agencies and helping make recommendations to the new administration. Brennan has supported warrantless wiretapping and extraordinary rendition, and Miscik was involved with the politicized intelligence alleging weapons of mass destruction in the lead-up to the war on Iraq.

Well, Amy, if you had bothered to be bothered by 1) the fact that Obama’s voting multiple times to fund and thus extend the war meant his anti-war rhetoric was just so much campaign claptrap and 2) Obama’s flagrantly unethical flip-flop on warrantless wiretapping back in June instead of ignoring it, perhaps you wouldn’t be shocked or surprised that he supports people who support these things! Duh!

The unthinking Obama cheerleaders over at The Nation are concerned that by losing, Hillary really won, since Obama’s White House looks more and more like it will be a Clinton-lite administration:

Looking at lists of early appointees for the transition period and the administration to come, from Rahm Emanuel on down, you might be forgiven for concluding that Hillary had been elected president in 2008. Clintonistas are just piling up in the prospective corridors of power.

Myself, I’d rather a real Clinton than a phony one.

Left-wing blog Open Left has had a collective stroke over Obama’s…ahem…shocking abandonment of change and embrace of experience:

For all the talk of “change,” I’m really curious whether Barack Obama thinks there are any worthy, smart, well-qualified people who aren’t part of permanent Washington and who didn’t serve in the Clinton administration? Certainly, his campaign apparatus appreciated that. But it doesn’t seem like his transition team does (a transition team, of course, dominated by former Clinton officials).

To answer the question. No.

Infidel 753 writes with glee of the left’s irrational Clinton Derangement Syndrome nightmares coming true:

Hmmm. Among rank-and-file Obamatards, some rumblings of discontent are being heard. Rather than packing his cabinet with mold-busting radical leftists, The One is assembling a team of establishment figures, many of them associated with the (shudder) Clintons. Maybe he realizes that, having won the toughest job on the planet, he needs as many experienced old hands on deck as he can get…

Obama can never be Hillary. But he may turn out to be what they thought Hillary was. If that is to be their punishment, it will be a tasty one to behold.

Dissenting Justice enjoys the coming meltdown as well:

During the Democratic primaries and in the general election campaign, I often thought that the left was collectively in an Obama-Vegetative State. Like zombies, they moved along, unable to muster up the slightest analysis of Obama that did not sound like messianic blather.

PUMAs and Clintonistas everywhere can now enjoy the party. Hillary was right: it takes experience to make change. And Obama needs the Clintons and their people more than they need him. She may have lost the primary, but she’s won the argument and thus the war. Change schmage. Experience wins again. Good for Hillary.
