Obama Rude to UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown Because He Was Sleepy

tiredbambiOh, pooooooor Obama. The diplomatic crapstorm he unleashed by embarrassing Prime Minister Brown — treating him like a Wasilla Junior High School homecoming king rather than the prime minister of the US’s most important European ally — was just a wee misunderstanding. You see, our fainting-couch President was just too tuckered out to do his job that day:

Barack Obama’s offhand approach to Gordon Brown’s Washington visit last week came about because the president was facing exhaustion over America’s economic crisis and is unable to focus on foreign affairs, the Sunday Telegraph has been told.

Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been “overwhelmed” by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.

Poor little flower. Here’s to hoping Alexrod — when he’s not too busy plotting against radio hosts — tucks President Bambi in, gives him a baby bottle to suckle, and turns over his duties to an adult who is up to the task.

How many people saw this coming?

After insulting Gordon Brown during the British prime minister’s visit this week by ignoring protocol and cheaping out on the traditional gift exchange, the UK media has erupted in outrage.  The Obama White House has now started to recognize the firestorm the new President created with our closest ally, and wants to assure the Brits that he meant no disrespect.  Instead, Obama apparently wants to assure them that he’s simply in over his head and floundering

I’m not sure which is worse.  At least if he meant to snub Brown, it would suggest a certain competence at this brand of diplomacy.  Instead, we’re told that the Obama White House and their staff are just a bunch of incompetents who got in over their heads.

Which is, of course, the point we made continuously over the last two years.

So I guess that makes 18 million + the UK, now, no?

  1. Embarressment?
    Now thatz embarassing Kellene.
In keeping with the website’s audience however.

  2. It’s upsetting to see Obama misrepresenting the American people like this. An absolute embarressment.

  3. It is possible that Obama was tired or overwhelmed, I don’t know. But does that excuse a State Department spokesperson stating the following to a British reporter for The Telegraph?

“There’s nothing special about Britain. You’re just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn’t expect special treatment.”

I think we get the message, even if we accept that Obama may represent the people of America, but he cannot claim to speak for them all, some solace in that I guess.
